A few of us who got our political start canvassing created this site so we'd have a forum to talk about the value of canvassing.
Door-to-door or “street canvassing” (standing in busy areas recruiting support for a cause) is a tool used by many organizations to help build support for their organizations and campaigns. Candidates for office recruit hundreds, sometimes thousands, of volunteers to go door-to-door in order to identify voters that support their candidate and remind people to vote. Nonprofit groups use canvassing to grow their membership bases, raise funds, and collect letters and petitions to support their organization’s efforts. All of these purposes help to educate the public about the important issues facing the country, and what some potential solutions might be, from civil rights to environmental issues. Even with the growth of social media and email, there is still something inherently powerful about speaking to people face-to-face, answering their questions and concerns one-on-one, and recruiting them to support the cause you care about.
We hope this site provides you with additional information so you can draw your own conclusions about the value of canvassing, and what works and what doesn’t when it comes to making a difference in the world.
We look forward to your feedback. Please email us at [email protected] with your comments or questions.
